Parent/Personnel Development Opportunities
1. Classroom Management and Effective Teaching of Children with Emotional and Behavioral Problems
WHEN: Feb. 21 in La Crosse at the Radisson Hotel, 200 Harborview Plaza, Feb. 22 in Green Bay at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1015 Lombardi Ave, Feb. 23 in Milwaukee (Pewaukee), Country Springs Hotel, 2810 Golf Road. All locations are from 8:00am 2:30pm.
WHAT: Many children have emotional or behavioral problems that present special challenges for teachers and others in school. This workshop will provide you with strategies to enhance learning, build self-esteem and control disruptive and otherwise troublesome behavior of students with emotional and behavioral problems. Discussion topics will include conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, depression and bipolar disorder, bullying, societal violence, parental mismanagement, among others, and on this foundation, build practical strategies to maintain behavioral control and teach effectively.
WHO: This is a conference for teachers, administrators, social workers, counselors, and psychologists focused on evidence-based classroom strategies that really make a difference.
REGISTER: Cost is $164.00/person, DISCOUNTS: Small group discounts are available for registrations received together. Two people registered together pay $154.00 each. 2. A Better Way Clubhouse Open-House
WHEN: Feb. 22 starting at 11:00am
WHERE: A Better Way Clubhouse at 205 S. Cherry Ave, Marshfield, WI
WHAT: Snacks will be provided. A Better Way Clubhouse was established to provide a safe and friendly environment for adults with mental illness. Its purpose is to assist individuals with their recovery by offering support, activities, and independent living skills. It is hoped this will be a valuable community resource for individuals with mental illness as well as for family members and those who provide services for them. 3. Call for Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment (YiPPE) Training Proposals for 2012-2013.
WSPEI (Wisconsin Statewide Parent Educator Initiative) is seeking proposals from school districts, communities, parent groups or agencies that would like to host a Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment (YiPPE) training for 2012-2013. Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment (YiPPE) is the only known program in the country to simultaneously train youth with disabilities, ages 15-20, in transition along with their parents. Up to 25 youth and their parents attend 5 weekend sessions throughout a school year to learn about effective self-advocacy, communication strategies, futures planning and available resources for students in transition.

4. Call for Parents in Partnership (PIP) Training Proposals 2012-2013
WSPEI (Wisconsin Statewide Parent Education Initiative) is seeking proposals from school districts, communities, parent groups or agencies that would like to host a Parents in Partnership (PIP) training for 2012-2013.
Parents in Partnership trainings are at no cost to parents or groups. The trainings are consistent with the Wisconsin Personnel Development Model and are designed to address Indicators 8, 13 and 14 of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) six year state performance plan for improving outcomes of children with disabilities in Wisconsin.

5. ALAS Support Groups Date Reminder
WHAT: The Latino Alliance Applying Solutions A.L.A.S.s mission is to promote the independence of persons with disabilities by providing information and support to them, their families, and their service providers in the areas related to but not limited to education and health.

7. So You Want to Work

9. Support Group for Parents of Children with Asperger & High Functioning Autism
WHEN: 3rd Monday of each month, 7:00pm

The Parent Leadership Hub supports parents/family members, educators and other community partners to build capacity regarding meaningful family involvement. The Hub serves three primary purposes:
(1) To support parents of children with disabilities between birth and 26 years of age to participate as partners in the professional development activities of each of the other Statewide Initiatives as they design, deliver and support professional development experiences
(2) To facilitate opportunities for parents/family members to build leadership skills
(3) To provide Content Focused technical assistance concerning family involvement
